2013: Ultimate Ascent
The game for 2013, Ultimate Ascent, is played by two alliances of three robots each on a 27″ by 54″ field. Robots on each alliance aim to score as many discs into their goals on the opposite side of the field as possible, during a match that lasts 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Near the end of the match, robots attempt to climb their team’s pyramid, located near the center of the field. Robots earn more points if they climb higher on the the pyramid.
The match begins with a 15 second autonomous period, where robots use pre-programmed instructions to attempt to score in each of the goals. After the autonomous period, there is a 2-minute tele-operated period, where human players step up to control their robots. In both periods, the robot can score by shooting disks into one of 4 goals and at the end of the game, the robot can attempt to climb a pyramid.
