The 2018-2019 season has been one of the most eventful seasons for the club. Previously, the team had searched for a workspace for the team, rather than working in the computer labs, and lobbied the Bellevue School District for a new space. The team was granted access to this space at the beginning of the year. This new space would help the team congregate and work together. Nevertheless, the team had to move all the materials from the old space to the new building. This process of unpacking and organizing the building continued throughout the season.
This year also marked the first year that the team built their robot, Opportunitree on a metal frame. The team also added two new sub-teams, Marketing and Control Systems. Because many newcomers joined this year, the team had to find a way in which the newcomers could be involved and still be able to make it a successful year. The older members involved the newer members by inviting them to initiate their own ideas for the robot and outreach projects.
The team also had the opportunity to compete at the FIRST World Championships this year with Opportunitree. We learned a lot from robot design to how to better improve management of a large team. Impressed by what we could have, many of the members were motivated to have another successful year.
